    Government in 'crisis'

Chatting to people at the Children and Young People's Services Awards last week there seemed to be a really positive mode about the children and youth sector at the moment. Particularly with Beverley Hughes and Ed Balls leading work at the DCSF.

One concern, however, was that if the government doesn't get through its current problems some time soon then Balls could find himself back at the Treasury as Chancellor before he has time to put his good intentions into practice.

Looking at it the other way, however, having Balls in Number 11 pulling the purse strings might be no bad thing for the sector. And it could pave the way for Hughes to fill his shoes as Children's Secretary.
