A call for extra financial support for small youth groups has been rejected by the Children's Secretary.

Yes we know the government will always do what is easiest for them, hence they hand out millions to large charitable organisations. . Has Mr Balls any idea how difficult it is for community youth groups to get funding? Probably not I would say but EVERY CHILD matters, how many are not getting any help?

Perhaps the Children's Secretary might reflect on where and how small youth charities come by their funding at the moment, It is very bureaucratic for us and a waste of our money bidding for funding as things stand. Most of the really good youth work is done by small groups at under £100,000, there will be greater waste and "padding" if spend must be £1 million plus.

Ed Balls is continuing the shortsightedness of previous government ministers who fail to recognise the true value of very fine work undertaken daily and weekly by many small charities working at the cutting edge with young people with very little in terms of financial resources. Perhaps the tax profits from CRB Checks could be redirected to genuine youth work.
