Website Feedback - perhaps a surprising seasonal compliment?

     Stovin and All

We're not sure if you will welcome a ringing festive endorsement from the likes of our dissident group, but it is the season of goodwill. The revamped site is smart and the daily bulletins prompt and informative. We have our reservations about the distinction made without explanation between Youth Work and Education in your categories of practice. It seems to overlook years of struggle around the meaning of Youth Work and the relationship between informal and formal education. And we'd like your reportage to be a mite more feisty and questioning. But, as Tim Davies notes, perhaps the hope is that the Forums and Blogs will animate critical debate. We hope so, but recognise that this will  be pretty difficult in the face of so much passivity, born out of understandable tiredness amidst the hurly-burly of practice , but also arising from an ideological retreat by a lot of folk in the work. Whatever, good on you for making the effort. And in praising your endeavours on our site, http://www.critically-chatting.0catch.com we encourage people to sign up to CYPNOW, suggesting that nobody's got an excuse anymore for not knowing what's going on!

Best Wishes for the New Year

    Hi Tony,

Glad you like the site, we certainly welcome debate on all issues so please encourage friends and colleagues to sign up and add their views.

By having education and youth work sections I don't think we are making any point about the nature of youth work, just trying to help people navigate to stories that will be of interest to them. In practice the formal education/curriculum based subjects tend to go in education, with most other aspects of work with young people going in youth work - although many stories will appear in both. If the navigation is confusing let me know and I'll see what can be done to make it more logical.

     Happy New Year,

     Tom
