Last night's Whistleblower programme on how an undercover reporter with no experience or qualifications got a position in a nursery will have struck fear into the hearts of parents using childcare; can parents ever really know what is going on in the place they leave their child?

Ofsted reports should not be taken as the definitive guide when parents are deciding how suitable a setting is though. Parents need to get in there and ask questions and see for themselves what goes on - and shouldn't good nurseries allow you to pop in without scheduling a visit beforehand?
